Nagoya is the capital of Aichi Prefecture in Chubu region (Central Japan). It is the largest in the region and one of the most populous in the country with more than 2 million residents. Nagoya also serves as the jump-off point to other prefectures in the region, making it an ideal base for those who want to explore other attractions outside the city.

The main gateway to the Central region, the Chubu Centrair International Airport, is located in Tokoname City, which is about half an hour drive to/from Nagoya. Nagoya seaport is also one of the nation’s major ports and the largest by international trade value. Large manufacturing and trade industries use this port to export their products.

It is not surprising that Nagoya became the transportation hub of Chubu region when its economy is mainly driven by automotive and aircraft industries. Toyota and its sister companies and brands are based in and near Nagoya. Mitsubishi Motors, Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation, NGK, and Nippon Sharyo, among others, have established their headquarters too in and near the city.

In terms of floor area, Nagoya Station is the largest not only in Japan but also in the world. Chuo Main Line, Tokaido Shinkansen Line, and Tokaido Main Line are just some of the many train lines that Nagoya Station serves. Meitetsu, a private railway company serving Aichi and Gifu prefectures, also has its headquarter in Nagoya.

Nagoya offers modern and historical attractions, both reflecting the culture built through the years. From the influence of the powerful Tokugawa rule to the rise of the industrial economy during the Meiji restoration to the destructions during WW II, the sites and attractions give insight into the past and how these events shape the present-day Nagoya.
